An insight into the Modus Super Series.
The Modus Super Series is fastly growing into the Darts No.2 platform. Sometimes referred to as the Modus League, the weekly darts tournaments are screened live six days per week.
Players who do not hold a Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) Tour Card are eligible to play. Notable players, such as Steve Beaton, former British Darts Organisation World Champion (BDO), Mervyn King, Trina Gulliver, and Lisa Ashton, are just some of the past stars of the top flight darts machine who regularly take part. Luke Littler has also cut his teeth in the Modus Series, winning his first significant dart titles live on our TV screens.
The Modus Super Series is an international darts weekly event launched in September 2022 after the success of the Online Dart League that was launched the previous year in 2021. The weekly events are screened via free-to-air Pluto.tv from a purpose-built darts arena in Plymouth.
Origins of the Modus Super Series
The Modus Super Series can trace its origins back to the Online Darts League, which began in 2020. At a time when people were confined to their homes due to COVID-19, darts were one pastime that many could still enjoy. The sport's popularity increased, but competitive, professional contests were absent.
The Online Darts League stepped in to fill the void and to give fans something to follow until the PDC circuit returned. Players competed in their own homes against an opponent based elsewhere, while the magic of split-screen TV allowed the action to be broadcast live.
In 2022, the league evolved into the Modus Super Series. Games are carried out six days a week, right through the year, from a purpose-built darts studio. From humble beginnings, the Modus League is serious business and is now considered the proving ground for future professional darts players.
Where to Watch
While it is a development league, the Modus Super Series is an important competition in its own right. As part of the legacy of its predecessor, the tournament is streamed live. Each game can be watched via Pluto.tv, a channel that specialises in online entertainment.
Fans can take in every game and bet on the tournament, too. Many of the industry's leading sportsbook operators offer markets for the Modus Super Series, and a list can be found in sources such as bonusfinder.ie. Sponsorship and advertising deals are also involved, so while this is a tier below the PDC, this is a serious competition.
Rising Through the Ranks
Experience in the Modus Super Series has been invaluable for 2025 PDC World Champion Luke Littler. Before joining the professional ranks, Luke the Nuke appeared five times on the Modus circuit, and observers quickly spotted his future potential.
Fallon Sherrock, Martin Adams, and Kevin Painter have also appeared at Modus events; all three are established names in the sport. Fallon Sherrock made history when she became the first woman to win the PDC World Championship match and hit a 9-dart leg in the Modus Super Series.
Martin 'Wolfie' Adams won the BDO World Championships on three separate occasions, while Kevin Painter played on the PDC circuit for twenty years from 2001.
Stars to Watch
Appearances by established players show that the Modus League Series is a respected competition within the sport. Everyone has a part to play, but the emergence and success of Luke Littler has everyone searching for the next darting star.
Having made it through PDC Q-School in January 2025, English thrower Tavis Dudeney is being touted as a player to follow. He's represented England at youth level and will be looking to make the step up. Meanwhile, young Irishman Keane Barry will show his credentials at the World Cup of Darts in June 2025.
While the lineup at the Modus Series is fluid, these are among the names to watch. Others who took part included Jamie Hughes, Bradley Roes, and Kent Sivertsen.
The 2025 Modus League Series features another interesting mix of young players and experienced stars looking to make their way back onto the main PDC Tour. Plenty is at stake for each player, and this tournament is important in multiple ways.
For the darts fan, it offers more opportunities to watch their favourite sport throughout the year. It's been a welcome addition to the circuit, and the 2025 edition of this fascinating competition promises more drama than ever before.
The Modus Super Series Format
The weekly tournament features twelve players, competing from Monday to Friday to win a place in the finals group which is staged on Saturday evening. The Weekly events are screened live via Pluto.tv in front of no audience, but professional commentary is provided.
The twelve players are split into three groups, with six players going into Group A, and three going into Groups B & C.
Play commences in Group A on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, starting at 9:30 am each day in a round-robin league format best of seven 501 legs per round. The player who finishes first after three sessions qualifies directly for finals night on Saturday evening. The remaining are given a second chance by competing in Group B or C.
Group B plays on a Thursday and Friday evening from 10:00 pm, and Group C plays on Thursday and Friday during the day from 9:30 am. The top three players from round-robin Group B and the top two players from Group C qualify for finals night. The remaining players are eliminated.
Finals night is played on Saturday evening, starting at 10:00 pm, where the players compete in a small group stage. Semi-finals and a final follow this to determine the weekly winner.
A new competition then starts again the following week, with twelve new players competing for the title.
After twelve weeks of competition, the twelve weekly winners compete in 'Champions Week', played every thirteenth game week to decide who will win the Series and earn a place on the Modus Super Series honours board.
